The Easiest Recipe for Bisquick Dumplings!

Bisquick mix is a staple in my pantry. It’s such a great shortcut to use for many delicious Bisquick recipes for things like pancakes, biscuits, sausage balls, impossible quiche, pizza dough, and dumplings.

On a cold night there is nothing like a big bowl of Bisquick chicken and dumplings. The delicious combination of hot stew and dumplings is out of this world. It’s so warm and hearty, not to mention easy to make.

Today we are focusing on the dumplings. These pillowy, fluffy dumplings are an amazing addition to things like chicken stew, beef stew, soups and more.

Bisquick Dumpling Recipe Ingredients

Only two ingredients needed for these delicious, tender and fluffy dumplings.

Bisquick – Bisquick is a premade baking mix that has leavening, flour, salt and fat.

Milk – I recommend whole milk for the fluffiest dumplings but you can substitute with 2%, almond milk, soy milk or even water.

How to Make Dumplings with Bisquick

This classic recipe is what you will find on the Bisquick box. Simply mix and drop into your favorite stew or soup.

  1. Add Bisquick and milk to a bowl. Gently stir until ingredients just come together until a soft dough forms.
  2. Use a tablespoon or small cookie scoop to drop dough into a lightly simmering broth. Be sure not to stir.
  3. Cook uncovered for 10 minutes and then cover and cook another 10 minutes.

Tips for Dumplings with Bisquick

Try using fresh Bisquick mix for the fluffiest dumplings. Older mix might not rise properly.

The most important tip is not to over mix the dough. This can cause chewy or tough dumplings. Stir ingredients just until combined.

Another tip is to let the dough sit for 3-4 minutes before dropping in the hot soup. Sitting will allow the dough to rise.

Don’t stir the dumplings while they are cooking.

If you would like to make Bisquick dumplings without milk, substitute with almond milk, soy milk or water.

To make gluten-free dumplings, use Gluten-Free Bisquick.

Add a little extra flavor by adding seasonings to the dumpling mixture. Salt, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, parsley, and chives are great to try. You can also add in a little grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese.

These dumplings can even be used for dessert. Try dropping into a pot of simmering fruit like cherries, apples, and peaches. Top the dumplings with a pinch of cinnamon and sugar for added sweetness.

They might have been cooked too long. Check on them through the cooking process and remove from heat once they are cooked through.

What is the secret to good dumplings?

The key to good dumplings is to not overmix the dough. Overmixing will cause them to become tough.

Do you cook dumplings with lid on or lid off?

Both on and off. We start off by cooking these dumplings uncovered with the lid off. After 10 minutes, cover with the lid and continue cooking.

Can I use water instead of milk for Bisquick dumplings?

Yes, you can use water instead of milk to make these dumplings.

How long should I boil dumplings?

Bisquick dumplings will cook for about 20 minutes.

How do you tell if dumplings are done?

To check if the dumplings are done, carefully remove one and cut it open. If it’s fluffy on the inside it’s done cooking. If it’s still doughy, continue cooking.

How to store Bisquick Dumplings

Store any leftovers in a container in the refrigerator. This will only last 1-2 days. Reheat in the microwave or in a saucepan over medium heat. The dumplings will still be fine to eat but may be a little softer after reheating.

I would not recommend freezing dumplings because it will loose it’s texture. They are fast to prepare and are much better fresh.
