What is a C2C Crochet Blanket?

A corner to corner blanket simply means it is made from one corner to another corner versus the typical rows we are used to crocheting. When you crochet this blanket, it will look like a triangle – the first row will be the tip of the first corner.

Basically, we will be increasing at the beginning and end of each row to get the sides of the triangle to grow longer. One of the sides will be the width of our blanket. To make a rectangle, we will then start to increase one side while decreasing the other to get more height. Once the height is achieved, we will decrease both ends to come to a point – our last corner.

It might sound confusing, but once you get it – I think you’ll love it! I love making this style blanket because there is no starting chain and you can simply repeat your rows until the blanket is the width you are wanting. It also gives diagonal stripes when using more than one color.

Crochet Ruffle Border

I finished this blanket off with a ruffle border which I think gave it just the perfect touch. I went with the mustard color for a border because I wanted the blanket to have a warmer look.

Ruffle borders are so easy to do! All you have to do is make multiple stitches in each stitch around. So for this blanket, I crocheted 3 double crochets in each stitch around (after making a foundation border of single crochets).

To make it even more ruffly, you can do 4 double crochets in each stitch. Just remember when doing a border that you want a few more stitches in each corner to give it a defined corner.

Crochet C2C Blanket Pattern

Materials

I Love This Yarn! in Sungold, Spa, and Ivory (worsted weight yarn 355yds/7 oz)

5.00mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle and scissors

Notes:

If you want to make a square shape, skip the increase/decrease rows and go right to the decrease rows.

Gauge

5.5” ~ 9 rows (measure from tip of first row over to last stitch made)

Abbreviations: (US terms)

Ch = chain, hdc = half double crochet, st = stitch, sp = space, sl st = slip stitch

Pattern

*Change colors every 3 rows. (Mustard, Spa, Ivory)

Row 1: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and across, turn

Make note of ch 2 sp formed from beginning ch, we will be working into this sp in the next row

Row 2: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, sl st into ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, turn

Row 3 (increase row): Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 2 ch sp, *sl st in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, repeat from * across, turn

Repeat Row 3 (increase row) until you get the width you want. (Width will be from the tip of the first row to one of the corners.)

We will now start to decrease on one side while increasing the other to start creating a rectangle shape. These are the increase/decrease rows.

Row 14: Ch 1, sl st into next 2 st and ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, *sl st to next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, repeat from * across, turn

Row 15: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, sl st in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, repeat from * across until you get to the last ch 2 sp, sl st in that ch 2 sp, turn

Repeat Row 14-15 (increase/decrease rows) until you get the height you want.

We will now start decreasing the remaining rows to complete the blanket.

Decrease row: Ch 1, sl st into next 2 st and ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, *sl st in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, repeat from * across until you get to the last ch 2 sp, sl st in last ch 2 sp, turn

Repeat as many times until you only have 3 “blocks” of half double crochets left to work into.

Second to last row: Ch 1, sl st into next 2 st and ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, sl st in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, sl st in last ch 2 sp, turn

Last row: Ch 1, sl st into next 2 st and in ch 2 sp, ch 2, 3hdc in same ch 2 sp, sl st in next ch 2 sp.

Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.

Border

Start with ivory color yarn.

Attach yarn to corner of blanket.

Make 3sc into corner, sc around evenly* (see note below) making 3sc in each corner, join to first st, ch 1, sc around in each st making 3sc in each corner. Fasten off and weave in ends.

*I found it best to crochet into each “block” of half double crochet and then between each “block” when doing the border.

Attach mustard color yarn into corner of blanket.

Ch 2, make 5dc into first corner, 3dc in each st around, making 5dc in each corner, join to first st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
